How to Install Sims 4 CC and Mods

New to Sims 4 custom content? This guide walks you through where files go, what to enable in game settings, and how to avoid the most common Mods folder mistakes.

Before you download CC

Custom content usually comes as .package files, while gameplay mods may include .package files and .ts4script files. Keep everything from trusted creators only, and avoid random reuploads or suspicious download buttons.

Where Sims 4 CC goes

  1. Open Documents.
  2. Go to Electronic Arts.
  3. Open The Sims 4.
  4. Open the Mods folder.
  5. Place your CC .package files inside the Mods folder.
Quick reminder: Do not put zipped files directly in the Mods folder unless the creator specifically says to. Most downloads need to be extracted first.

Turn CC and mods on inside the game

Open The Sims 4, go to Game Options > Other, then turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods. If you use gameplay mods, also turn on Script Mods Allowed. Restart the game after changing these settings.

How deep can folders go?

Regular .package CC can usually be organized into subfolders. Script mods should stay no more than one folder deep unless the mod creator gives different instructions.

After installing

  • Check Create-a-Sim or Build/Buy depending on what you downloaded.
  • Delete localthumbcache.package after big mod changes.
  • Test a few files at a time so it is easier to spot broken CC.
