Why CC disappears after an update
After many Sims 4 updates, the game may turn off custom content and script mods. This can make it look like your CC is gone even when the files are still inside your Mods folder.
Step 1: Re-enable custom content
- Open The Sims 4.
- Go to Game Options > Other.
- Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Turn on Script Mods Allowed if you use script mods.
- Apply changes, close the game, then reopen it.
Step 2: Clear the cache
Close the game and delete localthumbcache.package from your Sims 4 folder. This helps the game rebuild fresh mod information.
Safe habit: Before playing after a major patch, temporarily move your Mods folder to your desktop, update your important mods, then test before loading your favorite save.
Step 3: Update script mods first
Mods like UI tools, gameplay systems, traits, careers, aspirations, and core libraries are more likely to break after patches. Check each creator's official page for updates.
Step 4: Test in batches
- Move half your Mods folder out.
- Test the game.
- If the problem stops, the broken file is in the half you removed.
- Keep narrowing it down until you find the issue.
When to use the Emergency Fixer
Use the Sims 4 CC Emergency Fixer tool when you are not sure whether the issue is settings, folders, broken files, or script mods.
