How to Organize Your Sims 4 Mods Folder

A clean Mods folder makes Sims 4 easier to troubleshoot, easier to update, and way less stressful on patch day.

Start with a simple folder system

You do not need a complicated setup. The best Mods folder is one you can understand quickly when something breaks.

Suggested folders

  • CAS Hair
  • CAS Clothes
  • CAS Shoes and Accessories
  • Build Buy
  • Gameplay Mods
  • Script Mods
  • Defaults and Overrides
  • New CC To Test
Princess tip: Keep new downloads in a “New CC To Test” folder first. Once you know they work, move them into your main organized folders.

Keep script mods easy to find

Script mods should not be buried deep in folder layers. Keep them in a clear folder, and always read the creator's install notes.

Use creator folders when helpful

If you download a lot from the same creator, a creator folder can make updates easier. For example, you can organize by Creator Name inside a category folder.

Clean up regularly

  1. Delete duplicate files.
  2. Remove CC you never use.
  3. Update important mods after patches.
  4. Delete localthumbcache.package after major cleanup.

Best rule

If you cannot tell what a file is by looking at it, rename the folder around it or keep it with the creator's original folder name so you can find it later.
